About Nitin Banwar
Journey in Medicine and Art
Nitin Banwar, a self-taught artist from India, has lived a life as colorful and diverse as his art. Born in 1952, he grew up immersed in Indian culture, influenced by his father’s career in the Indian Navy.
In 1975, after a brief stay in Sweden, Nitin moved to the United States with a backpack and little money. Only able to start his postgraduate training once he got a Green Card in 1977, he made a living by selling drawings at local art fairs in Atlanta, Georgia, using discarded materials from a picture framing shop, a practice he continues today.
Nitin trained in Orthopedic Surgery and practiced in the Finger Lakes region of New York State for over thirty years. He was also a private pilot for nearly 30 years. During these years, art served as a balance to the precise world of surgery and aviation.
Artistic Evolution and Influences
Nitin’s art journey shows his belief in self-education and endless curiosity. His unique style—a mix of painting, drawing, cutouts, collage, and sculpture—takes inspiration from the myths and arts of many cultures. Each piece reflects a conversation between his Indian heritage and the various influences he has encountered over the years.
Working with A.J. Dungan, a digital colorist and abstract artist, Nitin has explored digital art, adding new dimensions of color and form. This partnership has allowed him to experiment with digital techniques, making his pieces more vibrant and deep.
Nitin’s recent ventures into 3D art and colorized sculptures show his ongoing exploration of materials and themes. Using found objects and natural elements, his art remains a dynamic display of his boundless creativity and passion.
A Life of Balancing Contrasts
For three decades, Nitin worked as a reconstructive orthopedic surgeon in the Finger Lakes region, where precision and objectivity were essential. Alongside his medical career, he explored visual arts, finding a creative way to express what words couldn't.
Now retired from medicine and aviation, Nitin devotes himself entirely to art, following his true passion. His artwork reflects his varied experiences and personal journey, inviting viewers into a realm where color, shape, and texture narrate stories without words.
“In the space between objectivity and subjectivity, my art finds its voice. It speaks through colors, shapes, textures, and forms. Inspired by global cultures and their myths, my work is a journey for inner understanding, trying to express the inexpressible. It’s not just art; it’s my way of exploring beyond conventional boundaries, showing my diverse influences and my passion for discovery.”
